About American Councils
American Councils for International Education is a premier, international nonprofit creating educational opportunities that prepare individuals and institutions to succeed in an interconnected and increasingly interdependent world. Our vision is to help build a world of globally competent citizens, successful institutions, and responsible nations.
Through academic exchanges, overseas language immersion, and educational development programs, American Councils designs and administers innovative programs that broaden individual perspectives, increase knowledge, and deepen understanding. After being immersed in other countries and cultures, our participants become culturally aware citizens of the world, contributing to mutual understanding and successful international collaboration.
Funding comes from public and private sources, including the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Education, the Library of Congress, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the governments of the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan, the World Bank, the Carnegie Corporation, the Open Society Institute/Soros Foundations, and other public and private donors.
