American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students on programs sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and U.S. Embassies abroad. These programs are highly competitive. On average, only 3% of applicants are accepted. Alumni of our programs include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives.
Our students are evaluated based upon English language proficiency, academic performance, maturity and motivation, as well as other factors that suggest they will be successful adapting to life in the U.S. and with an American host family.
