Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Have you been looking for a yoga buddy to help you with your warrior pose or downward-facing dog? Look no further than Aleksandra! She lists yoga among her favorite activities and practices frequently at home by watching YouTube bloggers. Aleksandra also uses technology to help her in her studies of foreign languages and cultures. She loves to watch English, French, and Korean films so she can practice her language skills while learning more about the food, art, and traditions of other nations. Aleksandra is looking forward to being able to share her own culture and traditions with her future host family. She says, “I want everybody to know about Kazakhstan because it is really fascinating and so cool!” In addition to studying languages, Aleksandra’s favorite subject in school is math. “Even if it’s hard,” she thinks, “it’s really cool to find solutions for difficult tasks.” Aleksandra describes herself as a “very open-minded person” who always tries to look on the bright side. Inviting such a driven, cheery young woman into your house will certainly make it a sunnier home!
