Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Keeping physically fit and intellectually sharp are two of Bohdan’s top priorities. He lists soccer as his favorite activity because he “loves team spirit, working together towards a goal, and supporting my friends.” Get your free-throw skills ready because Bohdan is also a huge fan of basketball! Even though the sport isn’t very common in Ukraine, he loves to watch games on television and is very excited to be coming to the United States where he can practice shooting some hoops. When he isn’t stretching his legs, you can find Bohdan flexing his favorite muscle—his brain! Bohdan has “always been interested in exploring and getting to know new things,” a characteristic he may have picked up from his mother, who is a teacher in his hometown. In addition to curiosity, Bohdan also credits his parents with teaching him to be punctual and responsible as he lives an honest and lively life. Bohdan is very excited to meet you and hopes that he can “help my host family to understand the Ukrainian culture and soul.”
