Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Over the past several years, Jenneley has developed her confident personality through dancing ballet. “While I’m dancing, it feels like the music flows through my body and gives me energy.” She enjoys dancing to upbeat dancehall music, which is a Jamaican-style genre that originated in the 1970s. Jenneley also keeps busy through her participation in the Girl Scouts. Does your family have any pets? Jenneley is a huge dog-lover and also cares for her family’s many birds and rabbits. One of Jenneley’s favorite pastimes is taking adventurous trips with her family to discover the beautiful nature and waterfalls that Suriname has to offer. She keeps her camera close at hand to photograph the picturesque scenery along their hikes. Jenneley is a natural in the kitchen. When she’s not preparing delicious breakfasts for her family, she bakes cakes and gets creative with the icing and sugary embellishments. Jenneley is sure to make many new friends in her host community as she describes herself as outgoing and feels comfortable around anyone. She is beyond excited to meet and get to know her American host family!
