Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Meet Jovan from Bosnia and Herzegovina! In addition to his standard education, Jovan has been practicing piano at music school for the past six years. “Music is something I am truly passionate about, and I believe it can even help people at hard times.” Practicing foreign languages is also one of his passions, and he participates in his school’s English and German clubs. Jovan is sure to become very active in community service in his host community as he is already an avid volunteer at home in Bosnia. He is very curious about different cultures and frequently travels with his family. Jovan spends a lot of his free time with his family and friends. Maintaining strong relationships are very important to him. He hopes to try as many new things as possible while in the U.S. in order to make special memories with his host family and new friends. Jovan has aspired to become a doctor since age four. He aims to dedicate his life to helping others. “I hope that this exchange program will bring me a unique experience and knowledge that will last me forever!”
