Our Students

OUR STUDENTS ARE EXCEPTIONAL

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Meet Amanda – a ballroom dance enthusiast from Ukraine! “Before going on stage, you feel excitement, but once the music starts to play, there is a great desire to come out and show all that you are capable of.” Aside from dancing, Amanda enjoys playing tennis, skiing, and bicycling. She has a lot of energy and loves to try new things. During her exchange year, she hopes to try cheerleading if given the chance. Amanda won’t be shy to introduce Ukrainian cuisine to her host family. “I like to help my mom with cooking because she cooks amazing and all of her dishes are so yummy!” She has a wonderful relationship with her family. Together they often go on picnics, visit art exhibits, or explore different festivals. They also frequently travel together. In the summertime, Amanda can be found relaxing at the seaside with friends or watching a new movie at the local cinema. Studying chemistry, biology, and physics really excite Amanda, so it’s no surprise that she aspires to become a doctor in the future. Given her eagerness to meet new people, and ability to quickly adapt to new surroundings, Amanda is sure to have a successful FLEX experience.
