Our Students

OUR STUDENTS ARE EXCEPTIONAL

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

“My name is Khanim, and I am so excited to meet you! I look forward to getting to know your whole family, and learning everything about your city and country.” Khanim is a very open-minded, communicative, and curious person. She appreciates the strong bond between her and her family members.  Khanim is very social and loves to meet new people. On warm summer days, Khanim and friends enjoy sitting at a small café, enjoying ice cream together.

If she ever has a moment to spare, Khanim enjoys watching one of her favorite movies, which include “Alice in Wonderland” and the “Harry Potter” series. She also loves the feeling of getting lost in a good book. “Books help me to travel the world, and learn culture.” Khanim has a natural curiosity for science and plans to become a doctor in the future! “I love biology because it’s about nature, flowers, animals, and us.” According to her teacher, Khanim is always first to volunteer as a class leader, and never shies away from the chance to expand her knowledge.

“It is my dream to experience an American high school and family. I want to meet new types of people, and I want to meet new friends.” She hopes to teach others about Azerbaijani culture, and traditional dancing. During her exchange program, Khanim hopes to use her journalism-skills to write about her experiences, and share her thoughts widely.
