Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Marija from Macedonia is curious about many things, and has a variety of interests to match her personality! Marija notes that her many interests are “why I have trouble simply focusing on one hobby and always willing to try a new one, but I think it’s alright because this way I never get bored!”  From reading to films to volleyball, Marija is always working towards new goals.

Marija enjoys spending time with her family and friends, whether they’re watching movies together, spending time at the mall, or going bowling. Along with her friends, Marija likes to attend school sporting events, so you can be sure you will find her at a football or basketball game in the US cheering on her school’s team! She enjoys her quiet time as well, as she especially enjoys reading and is in an English language book club in Macedonia. She notes: “It’s amazing to have people to discuss your love about books with.”

Marija loves spending time in nature, specifically if it involves being active. If your family likes to go for walks outside, hikes, or bike rides, Marija will be happy to join in. She shares: “As a nature lover, I LOVE spending time in nature. I can say for sure that weekends when I go hiking with my family and friends are my favorites!” She can’t wait to explore the outdoors in America with you and your family!
