Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Lukas from Lithuania has a story to tell, and he can’t wait for you to be included in his stories! A future filmmaker, Lukas loves watching movies, writing plays, and directing. He says: “I like to create my own characters, my own storylines. I have quite a few scripts waiting on my table already.” Lukas also loves all things pop culture and has attended Comic Cons and other conventions to share his love of comics and reading with fellow enthusiasts. If you and your family love to talk about the latest TV show or comic book adaptation, Lukas will be right there to share his thoughts with you!

When he’s not reading stories or creating his own, Lukas’ creative outlet is the piano. He shares: “I have been playing in a music studio for 5 years and I have played lots of different scores and compositions.” Unsurprisingly, Lukas’ favorite music to play is movie scores. For example, he has learned to play some of the songs from Oscar-nominated La La Land, which he very much enjoyed. Lukas says, “Piano lessons allow me to relax, dive into my feelings, and emotions, and they help me to calm down after a hard day of work and school.”

Lukas wants his new host family to know that “I am a really curious and interested person. I search for ideas and inspiration everywhere I go. I like talking to people. It allows me to get to know some very interesting stories which cannot be faked.” Lukas can’t wait for you to be a part of his life’s story!
