Our Students

OUR STUDENTS ARE EXCEPTIONAL

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Baglan describes himself as someone who is very polite, careful and always happy. He says, “My family is my heart. I really love them and of course I love to spend my time with them.” Baglan and his family come from a small village in Kazakhstan. In the summertime, they enjoy escaping to the beautiful mountains for camping trips. They fill their days with games, including volleyball and traditional Kazakh games. Perhaps Baglan will teach his traditional games to you!

Playing sports like soccer is one of Baglan’s passions. Another special skill is using rappers like Eminem as inspiration for his own poems and rap songs, which he likes to perform for others. Baglan is already a seasoned volunteer as he leads trainings in a local youth development group. He hopes to strengthen his leadership skills by participating in more volunteer activities during his FLEX year. Baglan is also curious to try new hobbies, such as learning to play the piano or guitar or playing sports that he hasn’t tried before.

Baglan feels that his hardworking attitude will help him have a successful FLEX year. He has always been someone who is determined to succeed in all aspects of his life. In advance of meeting his future hosts, Baglan wants to express: “I want to say thank you because you are going to fulfill one boy’s dream! Thanks for this and big respect for you.”
