Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Saliya is a very busy and an active young lady that will make a great addition to any household or community. Her list of interests and activities include basketball, debate, swimming, skiing, volunteering, and playing music. In addition to all of this she is also the class president! Whew!

Saliya’s favorite activity, however, is competitive ballroom dancing. She says, “I have gone to sport ballroom dancing club when I was 9 years old. When I dance I forget all problems. I think only about my movements.” She currently goes to her dancing club three times a week and would very much like to continue her training in America. Maybe your family can learn some new moves from Sailya?

Saliya also wants you to know that she is very creative. She is comfortable in front of the camera and dreams of appearing in television programs, “I get a lot of information about TV programs, acting and working with people and I think we will have a lot of common interests.” Looks like there are plenty of common interests to share with a person as involved as Saliya!
