Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Meet Yazan! He is a 15-year-old from the West Bank of Palestine. Yazan describes himself as “an intelligent, open-minded, committed and funny person. I also see myself as a challenger and adventurous.”

Likes most young men of his age, Yazan likes to hang out with his friends. Especially popular are BBQ nights and playing video games, two activities that may sound familiar to many American families!

Yazan’s big passions are soccer and taking part in scouting. He is quite good at both. He took part in a soccer academy in Italy and has acquired many badges in scouting. In his future he sees himself studying either Math or Physics because, “I like letting my brain work and I think everything in life is related to Physics.”

Taking part in the YES Program is an important step for Yazan. He writes, “I want to be an exchange student because I want to meet new people and learn about the USA way of life. It will be a great opportunity to know more about the USA culture and most importantly to share the Palestinian culture and life in Palestine.” Sounds like his ready to go!
