Our Students

We support high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students from more than 50 countries. While in the US, our students are proud to serve as citizen ambassadors for their respective countries. Upon returning home, they continue to carry their positive experiences of the US—especially their host communities—throughout their lives.

Bryan is known to always be smiling and laughing. He has a calm, kind personality and tends to be very reflective and humble. Bryan’s teachers always consider him when seeking someone that they can nominate to represent his school during special opportunities, such a spelling bee, or math competition, because they know he always gives it his all. Bryan Darlin says, “I have many friends and most of them are my classmates. When we are together, our favorite activities are playing soccer, basketball, and sometimes reading.”  He’s a very social person and loves spending free time with friends and cousins. Bryan also explores other cultures when he can, as he likes to occasionally watch Japanese animation.

One of Bryan’s well-known talents is his strong computer programming skills, which he hopes to develop even further in college; he eventually wants to become a computer science or math teacher. He looks to Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg for inspiration to advance in this field.

During his exchange year, Bryan hopes to engage with as many people as possible in his host community and school so that he can share his Cameroonian culture widely. He’s eager to visit some American museums, is interested in participating in programming competitions, and would love to learn how to swim, if given the opportunity. He says, “I hope that by the end of the YES program, I have more knowledge about America and other cultures.” Bryan is beyond excited to go on his first ever trip outside of his home country and make new friendships on the other side of the world!
