Zhanyl says that she has a very adaptive and flexible personality and her interests change from day to day. One day she will be weaving friendship bracelets, the next playing piano, and then maybe she’ll be reading detective novels or psychology books. However, Zhanyl says that “art is everything to me. I can talk about it endlessly. What inspires me most is what I’ve been doing for most of my life – drawing.” She is humble and describes her drawing skills as “so-so” in comparison to others since she has never had formal training, but “most importantly, I get pleasure from this and I really adore to do it.” She hopes to connect her passion for creativity and helping others smile with her future career. Zhanyl loves comics so she hopes to make her own comics someday. She hopes that her stories will inspire people and encourage them to believe in themselves.
It’s no surprise that Zhanyl’s friends describe her as creative, and she agrees with them. She loves making others happy through her drawings and through community service. Volunteering at orphanages and helping those who are hearing impaired learn English are her favorite activities. Helping others be happy makes her happy, too!
During her FLEX year, Zhanyl hopes to change her view and look at the world from a different perspective. Zhanyl is very interested in American pop culture and says that she doesn’t have many opportunities to experience American culture at home. She hopes to read many English novels and watch American TV series in the U.S. Additionally, Zhanyl is excited to try donuts, pancakes with maple syrup, peanut butter, and barbecue for the first time! Zhanyl already admires her future host family for deciding to host a student from an unfamiliar country!
