As an energetic, curious, and social young person, Zarina is eager to kick-off her FLEX year and make some new international friends. In her community in Kazakhstan, she enjoys walking along the river with friends, catching a new movie, or riding thrill rides at the local amusement park. When it comes to sports, Zarina particularly enjoys playing badminton, swimming, and bicycling. She hopes to learn how to ice-skate someday – maybe with her new American host family. “My favorite activity is drawing because it helps me to create something that can express my thoughts, and helps me to show my skills.” While living in the U.S., Zarina is excited to learn more about politics. She already considers herself to be very independent, but understands that an international exchange program will expose her to new challenges, and even more strongly develop her sense of self. Zarina loves traveling and has visited Russia and Uzbekistan with her family. “I also want you to know that I’m an easygoing person who likes helping people and learning something new!”
