Meet Nikola – an avid traveler from a small town in Serbia. “I am very interested in the history of other nations. Personally, I think that the key to a well-rounded, versatile person is learning about people living outside of their borders and learning to appreciate their culture.” What is his favorite part of traveling? Trying delicious new food of course! Nonetheless, Nikola feels content to return home after an adventure abroad as he considers his hometown to have a “unique, cozy atmosphere.”
As he is an extroverted person, Nikola feels like he makes friends everywhere he goes. “My friends and I are big adventurers, so we love to explore our city. There are many beautiful parks with playgrounds, and stunning plants and trees.” He will often break out his camera to capture the beautiful scenery. Together Nikola and friends stay active through many sports, including volleyball, water polo, and swimming.
“Drawing and painting is my creative outlet. Recently I wanted to perfect my work so I joined an art studio. There I paint and draw with other teens of all ages. This summer we are having an art exhibition. I am very excited to display my art!” Nikola is energized by competing in both art and literary contests. As a FLEX exchange student, Nikola hopes to learn how to be more independent, and strengthen his social skills. He hopes to teach others as much as he can about Serbia and feels like this will be a great step towards becoming a stronger youth leader.
