International Education Week 2014!

International Education Week 2014!

International Education Week is an opportunity for you to share YOUR culture and traditions with Americans. In order to encourage you to be active in IEW and to reward your participation, the Inbound Team has organized the following contests. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges made up of American Councils staff and volunteers in Washington, D.C. Students may enter up to two categories (one submission per category), and we will choose one winner per category. Prizes vary from $25-$50 gift certificates.

Why Host an Exchange Student?

Why Host an Exchange Student?

For a year, you will share your home, family, and life with someone who, in the beginning, will be a total stranger. It takes a special kind of family to consider themselves as potential hosts, and it’s only natural to ask, “What does my family have to gain from it?”

Inspiration

Kids whose parents host an exchange student are often inspired to study abroad, learn a new language, or travel in the future. In our progressively more globally connected world, an appreciation and respect for cultures beyond one’s own is a valuable, marketable outlook.

Cultural No-No’s

Cultural No-No’s

Did you know that in Bulgaria, shaking your head means “yes” and nodding your head means “no”?

These cultural differences are ubiquitous around the world. As a responsible host, it is your job to know what they are to prevent possible misunderstandings. The steps are simple: Follow these for smooth sailing with your exchange student!

2013 IEW Contest Winners Announced!

For one week in November, American Councils students participated in the annual International Education Week (IEW), where they made three presentations each (at least!) to their host school and community. To demonstrate all of their creative ideas for presentations and their reflections upon IEW, American Councils held a series of IEW themed contests, calling for students to share pictures, stories, and successes of their week of presentations.
