Meet Youssef- January 2026 Student of the Month!

This month, we are thrilled to highlight Youssef from Egypt, a student who has truly embraced every moment of his exchange year. Youssef’s outstanding engagement, leadership, and positivity earned him student of the month for the month of January! From the beginning of his exchange, Youssef has jumped wholeheartedly into his host community. He has spent meaningful time getting to know his host family, especially during their nightly dinners together. These conversations have helped him learn about everyday American life — from favorite foods and sports, to festivals and celebrations, to how schools and states differ across the country. One of the highlights of his year has been the deep connections he has formed at school.

This fall Youssef was even honored as Homecoming King — a memorable moment that reflects his positive presence in the school community.

Youssef has also been an active cultural ambassador. During International Education Week, he shared a presentation about Egypt, answered questions from his peers, taught two folkloric Egyptian dances, and even prepared an Egyptian dinner for his friends.

Earlier in the year, a special moment came when he and American Councils staff member Heidi Ropa presented an Egyptian flag to his school, a meaningful gesture symbolizing friendship and cultural exchange.

Outside of the classroom, Youssef has enjoyed many new experiences with his host family. One of his favorite memories so far was attending a Milwaukee Brewers game with his host family, friends, and other exchange students — a quintessential American outing that he will never forget.

His commitment to community service has also been a standout. His favorite volunteer activity was helping register participants for a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, where he experienced the joy of giving back during one of America’s most cherished holidays.

Youssef has embraced American traditions with enthusiasm, especially during the holiday season. He helped decorate the house for Christmas, decorated cookies, and even gifted some to his teachers. He also assisted one of his teachers with decorating her classroom as part of a class activity — another example of his eagerness to contribute and connect.

Youseef’s curiosity, kindness, leadership, and dedication to cultural exchange have made him a wonderful representative of his home country and a valued member of his host community. Congratulation Youssef! Keep making a difference in your community!
