Learn about our new program!
We are thrilled to announce a new program for youth from Kiribati! The program, called UUTI (meaning “awake” in the Gilbertese language) is funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation and will bring 8 high school aged students from Kiribati to the US for the 2024-25 academic year. Similar to FLEX and YES students, students from Kiribati will be selected through a rigorous, merit-based application process and will receive a full scholarship for the program. While in the US, students will live with host families, attend high schools, improve their English, and develop workforce readiness skills like computer literacy and communication. If you may be interested in supporting these students during their year in the US, there are several ways to get involved:
Become an LC! I-Kiribati students will be placed in clusters of 2-4, so we need motivated LCs to make this happen! You can apply to become a LC here, or, if you are already an LC, let us know at inbound@americancouncils.org if you would like more information or to get involved.
Volunteer to host a student from Kiribati!
Spread the word about this program! If you know someone who is interested in environmental issues, wants to learn about Kiribati, or supports international exchange and may be interested in hosting, please share this opportunity with them.
