Our Students

We support high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students from more than 50 countries. While in the US, our students are proud to serve as citizen ambassadors for their respective countries. Upon returning home, they continue to carry their positive experiences of the US—especially their host communities—throughout their lives.

Marija says that she is interested in many things, especially different cultures and folklores, but that her favorite activity is modern dancing. She feels that dancing is very exciting and that there is always something to learn. Another passion of Marija’s is riding horses. Ever since she was a young child, she has loved horses. Fortunately, her hometown hosts equestrian tournaments, so she has “the opportunity to share some beautiful moments with one horse which is the champion.”

Marija’s dream is to become an English professor so that she can introduce the English language to many people. She wants to share her passion with others and show that it doesn’t have to just be a requirement in school. She says, “I want to show people how wonderful it can be to be capable of talking with anyone anywhere in the world.”

Despite having a visual impairment, Marija is completely independent. She wears an eye prosthesis in one eye and only requires accommodations for things like reading materials and textbooks. She’s very comfortable talking about her disability and her dad calls her a true “fighter”! During her FLEX exchange year, Marija is most excited about learning about American culture, traditions, and way of life. She shares, “I would be delighted to bring a piece of it back to Serbia. I think that would be one of the greatest experiences anyone can have in their life.”
