About Aikanysh

Kind and creative Aikanysh loves her caring family and is excited to live with a host family during her time in the US. She is close with her older brother but would also enjoy a host family with young children sharing, “Even though I don't have younger siblings, I enjoy spending time with little ones and helping out whenever I can.” Aikanysh is also an animal lover and would welcome host pets as she enjoys spending time with her family’s cow and her pet cat. In addition to caring for animals, Aikanysh’s other household responsibilities include gathering berries, cleaning, and helping her mother with cooking.

Aikanysh is a life-long learner who is always on a quest for new and interesting information. She writes, “I love reading, as books broaden my horizons and inspire me!” In addition to reading, Aikanysh loves learning languages, drawing, playing the komuz (a traditional Kyrgyz instrument), and having meaningful conversations with her friends. She values honest relationships and loves connecting with her friends through shared interests and hobbies. Aikanysh is also passionate about helping others and hopes to create projects that allow fellow teenagers to discover new opportunities!

Extremely proud of her own culture, Aikanysh is looking forward to sharing her traditions and customs with her host family, including teaching them about ormoc, a national weaving practice she enjoys. Aikanysh is also excited to learn more about American cultures and hopes to start a new hobby, like playing the piano. Looking ahead to her time in the US, she shares, “I hope to gain valuable skills to express myself confidently and learn how to engage with people from different cultures!”
