About Arnel
Arnel describes his family as “loud, kind, and a bit noisy – but warm” and would welcome a visit from his future host family. As the official ‘helper’ of the home, Arnel is always willing to step up and take on a new role to the benefit of others. In the future, he hopes to not only help his family, but also his country through his work in education. Arnel and his friends are passionate about creating projects that will improve their country’s educational system for future generations.
Music has become a part of Arnel’s soul and playing instruments makes him feel at home. His favorite instrument, the komuz, is a traditional instrument of his home country and he is looking forward to introducing his host family to its beautiful sound. He shares, “The komuz is more than an instrument - it is a bridge to my ancestors, carrying their history and mine.” When he isn’t listening to or playing music, Arnel loves swimming as it gives him a feeling of freedom. He also enjoys playing table tennis with his friends and even views it as a type of meditation.
Throughout his exchange year, Arnel is excited to teach others about his country’s rich history and culture. He shares, “I hope to make lifelong friendships and share the beauty of my country with you and my future friends.” Living with a host family is a highlight for Arnel as it will allow him to better understand a new mindset and way of life. He hopes to learn about the history of his new host community and would love to start playing a new instrument like the guitar.
