Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Meet Kateryna, who goes by Kate. She describes herself as organized and creative. Kate’s father is a computer programmer, and this has made a big impression on Kate, as she hopes to become a computer programmer in the future as well. Kate feels as though she shares certain characteristics with each of her family members. Her interest in computers is similar to her father, while Kate and her mother share a love of music. Kate and her brother even share a passion for folk dancing! Kate writes for the school newspaper, and she really enjoys communicating with her classmates as she researches new topics to cover. Does your family love sports? Even though Kate doesn’t currently play any, she would like to try playing soccer or basketball while in the U.S. Kate has traveled to a number of different countries, including Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, to perform in folk dancing festivals. In addition to the dance performances, Kate really enjoyed learning about different cultures and making new friends on these trips. Kate works hard at her studies, but also makes time to help around the house, often cleaning her room, washing the dishes, and helping her brother with his homework. She even takes care of the family’s pet rabbit! Kate would make a sunny addition to your home, as she loves spending time with friends and family. She says: “I always laugh so much that my belly and cheeks hurt!”
