Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Learn more about Macedonia by hosting Marija! She stays active by practicing yoga, playing volleyball, hiking, and riding her bicycle. Marija loves learning about the important role that women have played throughout history in her Girls Leading Our World (GLOW) club. She already has some experience with international exchange programs as she has participated in multiple short-term exchanges in Europe. She is most fond of her experience in a one-week program in Romania that focused on human rights. Do you have family game nights? Marija loves getting together with friends to play Monopoly, Twister, and card games. She also has a passion for the arts and can be found attending local theatre productions or appreciating artwork by her favorite painter, Frida Kahlo. Marija would welcome the opportunity to have pets in her host family because she loves animals and has an “unconditional love for dogs.”
