Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Meet Bakhva, a future doctor from Georgia: “I think that saving people’s lives and giving them a second chance is the biggest gift that a person can give to another. I think I’m ready for this challenge because I know that with hard work and dedication I can achieve anything!” Science is Bakhva’s strongest academic subject, and he’s fascinated by futuristic tech like virtual reality. He’s also enthusiastic about participating in extracurricular activities, especially as a student leader in his student government.

Riding his bike through his small Georgian city with his friends is one of Bakhva’s favorite afternoon activities. A few of his other unique interests include listening to jazz-pop music and studying up on creative inventions. Bakhva’s not-so-hidden talent is singing! He takes weekly lessons in traditional Georgian singing and delights his family and friends with different songs. He looks forward to sharing this aspect of his culture in the U.S.

In order to stay fit, Bakhva goes swimming and plays rugby. Bakhva is sure to pack his camera this year because he wants to capture every moment. “In the U.S. I would try to do things that are new to me like American football, science club and also drama club.” With his outgoing personality and positive attitude, Bakhva should have no problem connecting with his future host family.
