Our Students

OUR STUDENTS ARE EXCEPTIONAL

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Anna L. from Ukraine is a sociable, curious, and naturally creative person. She is currently attending an art school and shares, “My house is full of sketches! Sculpture is my favorite activity because I like creating something with my own hands. I can sit for several hours creating something unusual or fun.” Anna will fill her host family’s home with the sound of beautiful music, as her many talents also include playing the piano and singing.

There’s nothing that Anna enjoys more than being surrounded by her caring friends. Together, they enjoy spending time outdoors and going rollerblading or swimming. But she also values family time. Every year, Anna looks forward to celebrating the Christmas and New Year holidays with her family, and she always spreads cheer by making gifts for others. She’s excited to partake in different traditions while in the U.S. Anna also plans to cook delicious desserts and traditional Ukrainian dishes for her host family this year!

What does Anna see as a perfect host family? It’s quite simple in her eyes: “I want to live in a family in which all members love each other and I think you’re such a family!”
