Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Meet Kamshat – a 15-year-old girl from Kazakhstan who also goes by “Kam.” She comes from a very historic city and can’t wait to teach others about it in the U.S. When there is free time in her busy schedule, Kamshat loves to go to cafes, parks and picnics with her parents and younger siblings. “I am ready to spread love, kindness and be a part of your lovely family!”

Spending time with friends is something that Kamshat strongly values. They help to bring out her funny, honest and cheerful characteristics. Kamshat’s many interests include learning foreign languages. Studying German is one of her newest challenges. She has a creative nature and enjoys sketching fashion illustrations and practicing photography. Kamshat also loves challenging herself with physical activities, such as playing volleyball, tennis and going swimming. She’s been taking dance lessons for years and participates in lessons up to three times per week.

Whenever there is an activity or club starting up at her school, Kamshat is one of the first to sign up. She’s an active member of the debate club, which is something she hopes to continue while studying in her U.S. high school. In the future, Kamshat hopes to study international relations and become a foreign ambassador. “Being a FLEX finalist will help me to reach my goals, teach me how to connect with people, and will help me to discover a new world of different people and cultures.”
