Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Jad is an active person whose main interests fall into two categories: sports and social activities. His favorite sports are basketball and swimming, but he also enjoys biking around his village. Jad has participated in scouting activities for eight years. Jad enjoys participating in all these activities with his close friends. His favorite activity, though, is basketball, because it gave him new friends and also allowed him to grow as an individual. He claims that he was not a good team player before, but now says that "on the court, I'm a different person, a much happier one. Basketball is a kind of meditation for me."

Jad speaks fondly of his hometown, remarking on the beauty of the mountains, evergreen trees, and river. He says that words cannot describe the beauty of his village, so he promises that he will bring pictures to share with his host family. He hopes that his host family will also fall in love with his hometown and perhaps visit him in the future!

As to his future goals, Jad plans on studying Political Science and International Relations with the hope of representing his country as an ambassador. To his future host family, Jad says, "I hope that by the end of this experience, I will have both a new family and a more mature perspective on life. Can't wait to meet you."
