Our Students

American Councils works exclusively with high school (ages 15-17) scholarship students. Alumni include heads of state, educators, entrepreneurs, and more. They are exemplary citizens of their countries and carry their positive experience of the U.S.—especially their host parent or family—throughout their lives. Learn more about some of our Featured Students below.

Umed is a very active and curious individual. He loves “discovering and learning new things, opening for myself new sight of views, making friends with new people and exchanging with them our skills, opinions, and knowledge.”

One of his greatest passions is connected to technology. He is very curious to learn how technology like computers and phones work, function, and are created. He is so passionate about technology that he hopes to make it his career. He plans to get a great education and become an IT specialist in the future. Umed acknowledges that there isn’t a big market for this profession in his city right now, but he is confident that there will be more opportunities in the future.

Umed enjoys spending his free time with his friends, gathering in the park, playing guitar and singing songs, or sharing information related to new technology. They also enjoy playing soccer or computer games together. While on the FLEX program, Umed hopes to learn how to play American football and participate in wrestling. He says that “I want to try American football, because when I was a child I always saw in American movies this kind of sport, and always want to try myself, but I haven’t got the opportunity.”

Umed is open to trying many new things and learning about different perspectives. He is prepared to work hard and persevere to achieve his goals. He wants to meet new people, share perspectives, and experience a different culture and lifestyle. He says that these things “we cannot read in books or reviews, these things must be felt yourself.”
