Meet Maisha our Student of the Month for November 2025!
This month, we are excited to celebrate Maisha from Bangladesh, hosted in Alaska as our November Student of the Month! She has embraced her exchange experience with curiosity, creativity, and kindness, jumping into every opportunity her host community offers. Whether she’s sharing her culture, volunteering, or exploring new activities at school, Maisha brings enthusiasm and heart to everything she does.
“I have been here in Anchorage since the last 2 months but the people around me never let me do this whenever I met them I feel like I have known them for a long time . I feel so lucky to be placed in this city and get the chance to meet these amazing people.”
During International Education Week, Maisha found joyful and meaningful ways to share her culture with classmates and teachers. She brought small souvenirs from home — miniature flags, Bangladeshi currency, and traditional keepsakes — and explained the stories behind them. Her friends even went home and showed their families the souvenirs, and the next day they asked more about Bangladesh. Maisha also wore traditional clothing throughout November, sparking conversations about fabric, embroidery, and craftsmanship. She said, “One of my neighbors asked me about the embroidery designs of my dress as she found this so interesting. It was important because it grew an interest in people's minds about my country and culture.”
Maisha’s commitment to service has made a deep impact on both her host community and herself. This month, she volunteered as a lane monitor with Special Olympics Alaska, where she worked closely with athletes with disabilities. She said that she learned how important it is to give everyone opportunities and inspired her to think about how she can help disabled people in Bangladesh.
One of Maisha’s most meaningful cultural experiences this month was celebrating Thanksgiving with her host family. “I learned that it’s not just about food — it’s about gratitude and spending time with the people you love.” She also volunteered with her Scout troop on a three-day Thanksgiving project, preparing and distributing meals to families in need. Even after hours of work, Maisha said, “everyone was so tired but when we saw the smiling faces of the people while giving them the foods we were no more tired and it made me realize that when you doing voluntary works you are not only making a change in your community but also you are satisfying your soul.” The experience made her feel closer to her host family and deepened her appreciation for American traditions.
Maisha with her classmates
In school, Maisha enjoyed learning about George Washington in her U.S. History class — a childhood curiosity finally fulfilled. She also joined choir, exploring American musical traditions and expanding her artistic horizons. As a passionate tech enthusiast, Maisha noticed that her school didn’t yet have a programming club and saw an opportunity to help create one. With encouragement and support from her guidance counselor, she is now working to launch a new club, with hopes of hosting a competition after spring break.
Maisha’s month has been full of learning, connection, creativity, and courage. She has shared her culture with joy, supported her community with compassion, and stepped fearlessly into new experiences. We’re proud to recognize her as our November Student of the Month, and we can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next! Congratulations, Maisha!
