Adiya

About Adiya

Adiya lives in her school dorms during the week and at home with her parents on the weekends. Family is very important to Adiya, and she has learned the importance of kindness and family love through taking care of her younger brother who has a disability. Adiya and her family love watching movies and TV shows together, especially ones that take place in the US, which has made her curious about what everyday life is really like there. She hopes that her future host family will “introduce me to real life in the US and help me learn about American culture.” In exchange, Adiya plans to teach her host family and new friends about her own country and traditions.

Active Adiya loves sports with volleyball being her favorite. “I enjoy the teamwork, communication, and energy we create on the court,” she writes. Volleyball also helps her build strong friendships and her teammates have become her second family. When she isn’t playing volleyball, Adiya likes to volunteer at different places in her hometown as it helps her feel connected to her community.  As a self-described “outgoing and social person,” Adiya loves meeting new people and shared that she even knows most of the people in her city.

In the US, Adiya hopes to play volleyball or try a new sport like cheerleading, which she thinks will be a great way to meet new people and make friends. Adiya believes that sports allow people to have fun while also learning about a new culture. During her exchange year, Adiya also wants to learn about new technology related to people with autism spectrum disorder so she can bring this knowledge home to her brother.
