About Lya

Hard-working and adaptable Lya is from a peaceful and quiet community near the beach where she likes to watch the sunset. Lya loves the water as she has been swimming since she was young, and she would enjoy visiting a water park with her host family or new friends while in the US. She is also excited to spend time with her host family and “learn more about their holidays, like Halloween and the Fourth of July, and new sports, like American football.” She believes that spending quality time with her host family will allow them to bond and be open with one another.

A self-described extrovert, Lya is sociable and loves to spend time with her friends. They often “play volleyball after school or go to the park for picnics or a swim on the weekends.” When she isn’t with her friends, she can usually be found playing board games, singing karaoke, or dancing with her siblings. One of Lya’s many talents is traditional dancing, something she hopes to share with her host family!

Lya prides herself in being responsible and respectful of others, attributes that will serve her well in her future career as either a lawyer or a policewoman. In addition to law, Lya enjoys learning about history and science and often partakes in class competitions for these subjects. Her love of learning extends beyond the classroom as she hopes to learn about new technologies and US culture while integrating into her host community. When looking ahead to her time in the US, Lya shared, “I am very interested in trying new things and making new friendships that will last for a lifetime!”
