Tekla
About Tekla
Tekla comes from a closeknit, supportive family and enjoys an active, peoplecentered lifestyle. She loves traditional dance, music, baking, and spending quality time with friends and family, whether that’s watching movies together or singing karaoke. Tekla says that dancing “makes me feel more connected to my culture and lets me express my feelings without words.” She values shared experiences that bring people closer. Growing up in a community where relationships matter has shaped her appreciation for connection, cooperation, and shared responsibility.
Tekla is empathetic, reflective, and confident in her values. She shares that “the key to solving issues or conflicts is understanding other people's perspectives,” a principle she actively lives by in school and daily life. Over the past few years, she has intentionally pushed herself by joining clubs, leading projects, and participating in performances, explaining that “better to try and fail than fail to try.”
Tekla would integrate naturally into a host family by being engaged, helpful, and genuinely interested in family life. She looks forward to sharing her culture while embracing everyday American traditions, school clubs, volunteering, and seasonal activities like hiking or ice skating. Tekla hopes to build strong relationships during her exchange year and grow as a communicator and leader, saying she wants an experience that helps her “connect with people in some way.” Her adaptability, curiosity, and kindness position her to thrive both in a host family and in the classroom.
