About Maya

Artistic, creative, and theater-loving Maya can’t wait to share her passion for the arts and her bright personality with her host community! An expressive and social teenager, Maya loves spending time with her family, especially crafting with her sister and gifting her creations to loved ones. She adores all forms of art, saying, “I love acting, drawing, writing poems or songs, and crafting because it’s one of the best ways to express myself.” For Maya, music is “a cure for the soul,” and she’s rarely without it! One of Maya’s unique joys is giving compliments. “I can’t describe the warmth and happiness it brings me to see a stranger’s reaction and smile when I go up to them and say a kind word!”

Curious and adventurous, Maya embraces every opportunity to learn about the world. As a student at a Spanish-speaking high school, she’s developed a love for languages and speaks Spanish, French, Turkish, English, and Bulgarian. Living in a bustling metropolitan city has introduced her to people from all walks of life, fueling her curiosity and love for cultural exchange. Maya has also traveled across Europe to participate in volunteer projects, experiences she treasures for the cultural exchange and connections they brought. “I feel so charged with positive energy when I’m surrounded by so many cultures and amazing personalities!”

Maya is most excited to join her American school’s drama club, where she can embrace her love of acting and singing. She’s looking forward to improving her English, exploring new activities, and creating lasting memories with her host family. “I really can’t express my gratitude and admiration to you, my host family, for welcoming me into your home with open arms and hearts!”
