About Sofia
Family is very important to Sofia, and she prioritizes time with her parents. She writes, “We love spending time together – playing board games, telling jokes, and laughing for hours.” When they aren’t at home or attending local theater performances, Sofia and her parents love to travel around Ukraine and explore new cities. Friendships are also a priority for Sofia, and she cherishes the lifelong friends she has made through shared interests like cycling, tennis, and playing frisbee.
Curious Sofia has many hobbies, but her biggest passion is dance as it makes her feel strong and full of energy. “When I dance Ukrainian folk dances I feel connected to my culture,” she shares. While she isn’t currently part of a dance team, she loves to practice at home as dance is a part of her soul. Language learning and music also play a large role in Sofia’s life. She has played the piano for many years and is currently learning three different languages – English, German, and Polish.
During her exchange year, Sofia would love to go on hikes and explore her new host community. She is also excited to teach others about her beautiful and interesting home country through cooking traditional foods and performing Ukrainian fold dances. Living with a host family is also a highlight for Sofia as she hopes to “learn a lot about American culture, values, and daily life.” Sofia is excited to make new friends and create memories with her host family that will last a lifetime!
